Raising Awareness – In April 2009, The Chocolate Room and
Madécasse hosted an educational tasting about chocolate
making, from tree to bean to bar. All proceeds were used to
provide a start-up loan to Ezaka /ayzaka/, a cocoa cooperative
in the Sambirano Valley of Madagascar. Ezaka used the funds
to construct fermentation boxes and a drying area. Cooperative
members are using the equipment to a produce a higher priced
premium cocoa for Madécasse chocolate.
Impact Beyond the Farm –The benefits of your purchase go beyond the farm.
Madécasse chocolate is one of the only fine chocolates made in all of Africa! This
creates 4x more income for the Malagasy people (vs exporting Fair Trade cocoa).
